Mestalla, with a brace from Lionel Messi proving the difference in what was a brilliant game of football. All the goals came in the second half, and Barça needed to come from behind and hold on to the lead to pick up three crucial points against a tough Valencia side.

Barcelona’s win over Valencia saw the Catalan giants keep their title hopes alive but the team’s chances of finishing top looked in serious jeopardy when Gabriel Paulista headed into an empty net early in the second half.
Lionel Messi was then presented with an excellent chance to equalize but saw his penalty saved by goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen. Fortunately, some good hustle from Sergio Busquets allowed Messi to make amends and make it 1-1.
Antoine Griezmann then put Barca in front before Messi scored a brilliant free-kick to make the game safe.

VALENCIA, Spain, May 3, 2021 (BSS/AFP) – Lionel Messi missed a penalty but still scored twice, including an exquisite free-kick, as Barcelona edged a five-goal thriller with Valencia on Sunday to stay within touching distance of the top of La Liga.
After Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid both won on Saturday, there was no margin for error at Mestalla, where Barca’s 3-2 win reduced the gap behind Atletico back to two points, now with four games left to play.
Gabriel Paulista headed Valencia in front early in the second half before Messi missed a penalty, only to smash in from the resulting scramble.

A Lionel Messi brace helped Barcelona edge a five-goal thriller against Valencia at the Mestalla on Sunday night.
The Blaugrana were without the services of manager Ronald Koeman, who was handed a two-game ban for the red card he received in the shock defeat to Granada last week.
Assistant manager Alfred Schreuder took his place, and three changes were made to Barcelona s starting lineup, with Sergino Dest, Clement Lenglet and Ronald Araujo all handed starts.
