FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. The world lost 17 souls on Valentine’s Day 2018 when a lone gunman roamed the hallways of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, firing round after round from an AR-15 rifle until 14 students and three faculty members lay dead.
On Sunday, the third anniversary of the massacre, the Parkland community mourned the tragic loss and the world mourned with them.

Three years after arguably the worst tragedy in the history of South Florida, the lives of 17 people killed during a shooting inside a Broward County school were honored Sunday.
Events were held across the county to pay tribute to the lives taken – 14 students and three staff members – during the Feb. 14th, 2018, mass shooting inside Parkland s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

PARKLAND, Fla. - Flags will be flying at half-staff on across Florida on Sunday to honor the victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.
Sunday marks three years since 17 people were killed and another 17 wounded when a gunman opened fire at the school in Parkland, Florida on Valentine s Day 2018.
The massacre on Feb. 14, 2018 Valentine’s Day inflamed the nation’s debate over guns, turned some Parkland students into political activists and gave rise to some of the biggest youth demonstrations since the Vietnam era.

Other cities, including Pembroke Pines and Margate, also held vigils Sunday to remember the moment that shook the area to its core.
An event Sunday morning in Coral Springs paid tribute to the lives lost, with family and friends lighting 17 candles for those killed in the shooting. NBC 6 has team coverage of events taking place in South Florida to commemorate the victims of the Parkland shooting.
In Fort Lauderdale, a separate event remembered the lives lost with the emotion still the same three years later. Today for our family is not much different than any other day, said Tony Montalto, whose daughter Gina was one of the 17 victims. “Every day we’re faced with the loss of our bright and bubbly daughter.”
