AmeriCorps volunteers work to make Clarkco State Park safer
January 24, 2021 GMT
QUITMAN, Miss. (AP) The campgrounds at Clarkco State Park in east Mississippi are now safer for visitors after a group of AmeriCorps volunteers spent several days leveling the ground around the park’s camping pads.
The ground around the pads had eroded over time, creating a safety hazard.
“It creates a huge drop and a fall hazard for people who are coming out of their campers,” Sophia Farchione, one of eight volunteers helping out at Clarkco, told The Meridian Star.

Clarkco Park Manager Toney Fleming said five teams have helped with projects in the park over the last year. He said the volunteers help with projects that the park’s small staff are unable to complete.
