Celebrating ag; applicator training offered
Tony Nye - OSU Extension
Agriculture is something we should celebrate every day of our lives, but unfortunately, many take it for granted. Agriculture provides almost everything we eat, use and wear on a daily basis, and is increasingly contributing to fuel and other bio-products.
Did you realize that in February and March we celebrate agriculture with a couple of events? National FFA (Future Farmers of America) Week was Feb. 20-27. This is a time for FFA members to host activities that raise awareness about the role FFA plays in the development of agriculture’s future leaders and the importance of agricultural education.
Think spring and planting trees
Tony Nye - OSU Extension
Now that most of the snow has melted and we’ve reached spring-like temperatures, I’m truly getting my green thumb on for spring. Many of us gardening enthusiasts are looking forward to spring and counting the days when we can get seed planted for our flower and vegetable gardens.
Trees can also mean spring and are now available through the Clinton County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) orders are due by March 5.
Essentially, the ideal time of year to plant a tree is when we receive regular rainfall. Based on that, both spring and fall are good times to plant because these are times of the year when we tend to get more regular rainfall.

Tony Nye - OSU Extension
I’m ready for some sunshine that sticks around for more than a few minutes or a few hours. Let us hope that rodent on Feb. 2 predicts an early spring.
In case you’re counting, we have 48 more days until spring is officially here.
Enrollment for the Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs for the 2021 crop year is currently open. The deadline to enroll and make amendments to program elections is March 15.
Producers have the option to enroll covered commodities in either ARC-County, ARC-Individual, or PLC.
Now’s time to work on estate planning
Tony Nye - OSU Extension
What is estate planning? Simply, estate planning is arranging for the use and disposal of your resources and property after your death.
It allows you to look at the total picture. You should give some time and thought to plan your estate.
Here would be some steps to consider:
1. Know what you have and where it is: What do you own? What is your net worth? Where are your important papers?
2. Know how you want your estate to be handled: What are your goals for your estate after your death? Who, as your estate planning team, can help you meet those goals?
