Ron DeSantis has signed the online sales tax bill into law, answering the question of whether he would act on the bill or let it roll into law without his John Hancock.
Lawmakers
passed the bill earlier this month, finalizing Republican legislative leadership’s plan to require online retailers to collect sales tax. An estimated $1 billion in revenue would come from the new enforcement of sales taxes technically already owed on purchases Floridians make from out-of-state sellers, but which few Floridians pay.

New York State Restaurant Association calls on elected officials to extend takeout cocktail program once more
One year after the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, the hospitality industry continues to grapple with takeout cocktail legislation. The state’s temporary takeout cocktail program, which allows restaurants and bars to sell wine bottles and cocktails to-go, has been extended multiple times since the start of the pandemic, while elected officials have introduced legislation to keep the law in place after the pandemic. The latest version of the law is set to expire on March 28, 2021.
Ahead of that deadline, the New York State Restaurant Association is calling on elected officials and Gov. Father Jose Rodriguez, with Jesus de Nazaret Episcopal Church, grew up in the area and went to Roberto Clemente Middle School, which was formally known as Stonewall Jackson Middle.

“It didn’t cross my mind that this would ever be Roberto Clemente Middle School, but it did when I was in eighth grade and we started learning about the civil rights and the problem the name the school had,” Rodriguez said.
