Ariana DeBose sees the potential for director Ryan Murphy s new Netflix movie musical “The Prom” (streaming now) and its message of inclusion to change the world. What it definitely will do, however, is introduce the Tony Award-nominated actress to a massive new audience.
“Never in a million years did I think I was going to work on a feature film with Ryan Murphy, let alone have the honor of telling a story about a young queer brown girl,” says DeBose, who herself identifies as queer. It s a testament to the fact that the big movie-musical happy ending is possible.

Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s PNC Broadway in Pittsburgh series is now scheduled to return to the downtown Benedum Center in September.

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is anticipating the return of live Broadway programming to its PNC Broadway in Pittsburgh series in the fall.
At this point, the series is scheduled to reopen Sept. 7 with “Hadestown.”
“Hamilton” will return in 2022.
“We are proud to have preserved most of the originally scheduled 2020-2021 PNC Broadway in Pittsburgh season shows,” said Marc Fleming, the Trust’s vice president of Marketing, Communications and Broadway Programming.

“I have always wanted to make art that I thought was a conversation starter,” DeBose tells ET. “And so, to be a part of two films that allows for that conversation to happen, to go further into pre-existing conversations, it’s really exciting.”
