Pub opens goat farm (no kidding) );
CUSTOMERS aren’t the only ones jumping for joy at the re-opening of pubs.
The Maltsters Arms in Rotherfield Greys has built a pocket farm at the bottom of its paddock, which includes chickens, quails and two pygmy goats that love to bounce on a trampoline.
The eggs from the birds are used for dishes on the pub’s menu but as there is a surplus many have been handed out to the community free during the coronavirus lockdown.
Gary and Donna Clarke, who took over the pub at the beginning of last year, say the animals have proved to be popular with customers.
One of B.C.’s smallest birds is responsible for a four-month stop-work order on one of the federal government’s largest projects, the expansion of the Trans Mountain pipeline.
Anna’s hummingbirds are protected by Canada’s Migratory Bird Act, which says any work that could negatively affect the population has to be halted until nesting season is over. The order, issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada, was put forward after conservation officers saw the company felling a tree with an active hummingbird nest in it earlier this month.
The pipeline, originally built in the 1950s, was taken over by Texas’ Kinder Morgan in 2015, which then made plans to triple the exports of the existing operation, upping production to up to 890,000 barrels each day flowing from Alberta to the coast of B.C. The federal government purchased the pipeline in 2018 for $4.5 billion. The Trans Mountain expansion (TMX) is projected to cost $12.6 billion.

He attended Sul Ross University and South Plains College. He was currently employed by Terry County Tractor as Parts Manager in Lubbock. He was formerly employed by Family Power Sports in Lubbock. He was a member of the Yellowhouse Masonic Lodge in Lubbock. He was the current President of the Wild West Chapter of the Punishers Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club.
I ve been keeping track of this for a while and I have seen the amount of litter dramatically increase over the last few months, said Ms Clarke, 60. I used to be involved in waste management and litter policy, so it really breaks my heart. I think one of the causes is people who are bored sick going for a drive and tossing their rubbish along the way. The problem is, people chuck away rubbish in places where there is already litter. When a neighbourhood has already been trashed, people think it is fine - what does it matter?
She added: Another issue is education. Most children growing up will copy their parents and behave the same way. It would be nice to emerge from lockdown and for there to be a call to arms for people to do the right thing.
