Japanese utility Tokyo Gas has completed construction on a 92.6-km gas pipeline called Ibaraki Line between Hitachi and Kamisu in Ibaraki Prefecture and launched gas flow at the start of this month, it said on March 11.
Tokyo Gas has also completed a 230,000-m
3 second tank at the Hitachi LNG terminal at Hitachi and began its commercial operation on March 10. Work on the pipeline began in April 2017 while work on the tank started in April 2018.

Japanese firms ally to promote carbon-neutral LNG
Fifteen major Japanese companies have joined forces to promote carbon-neutral liquefied natural gas and help achieve a sustainable society.
The companies held a news conference on Tuesday to announce the formation of their alliance. They include utility firm Tokyo Gas, automaker Isuzu Motors, and property developer Mitsubishi Estate.
The extraction, transportation, and burning of LNG generates a carbon footprint. However, so-called carbon-neutral LNG offsets that through such activities as planting trees to absorb carbon dioxide.
Carbon-neutral LNG is already gaining traction in other countries.
Leading oil companies abroad are selling LNG certified as carbon neutral, but its use in Japan has been limited up to now.

TOKYO (Reuters) - Tokyo Gas Co Ltd and 14 other Japanese companies that use city gas have formed an alliance to enhance the use of carbon neutral liquefied natural gas (LNG) to help tackle climate change, they said on Tuesday.
Carbon neutral LNG typically involves companies supporting projects that reduce emissions to compensate for emissions generated from exploration and production.
The move, which comes as carbon reduction targets tighten around the world, may encourage global gas producers to offer cleaner supplies.
Members of the new Carbon Neutral LNG Buyers Alliance come from various industries and include Toshiba Corp, Isuzu Motors Ltd and Mitsubishi Estate Co Ltd.

A group of 15 Japanese entities has established the Carbon Neutral LNG (CNL) buyers alliance, one of its members Tokyo Gas said on March 9.
The alliance comprises Tokyo Gas, Asahi Group Holdings, Isuzu Motors, Olympus Corp, Sakai Chemical Industry Co., Duskin Co., Tamagawa Academy & University, Toshiba Corporation, Toho Titanium Co., New Otani Co., Marunouchi Heat Supply Co., Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Mitsubishi Estate Co., Yakult Honsha Co. and Lumine Co.
