Japanese firms ally to promote carbon-neutral LNG | NHK WORLD-JAPAN News

Japanese firms ally to promote carbon-neutral LNG Fifteen major Japanese companies have joined forces to promote carbon-neutral liquefied natural gas and help achieve a sustainable society. The companies held a news conference on Tuesday to announce the formation of their alliance. They include utility firm Tokyo Gas, automaker Isuzu Motors, and property developer Mitsubishi Estate. The extraction, transportation, and burning of LNG generates a carbon footprint. However, so-called carbon-neutral LNG offsets that through such activities as planting trees to absorb carbon dioxide. Carbon-neutral LNG is already gaining traction in other countries. Leading oil companies abroad are selling LNG certified as carbon neutral, but its use in Japan has been limited up to now.
