World champion PV Sindhu remains India s best Olympic medal prospect but she has to give more attention to her recovery process between matches to achieve the feat at the Tokyo Games, according to former India badminton coach Vimal Kumar.
Sindhu didn t have a good outing in the three events in Thailand in January and even though she reached the finals at Swiss Open and the semifinals at All England, she suffered demoralising losses to Olympic champion Carolina Marin and Thailand s Pornpawee Chochuwong respectively.

Ratchanok targets semis place at All England Open
BADMINTON: Ratchanok Intanon will lead the Thai challenge at the All England Open, which begins today (Mar 17) in Birmingham.

With the absence of in-form mixed doubles duo Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai, Ratchanok, seeded fourth in the women’s singles, is seen as Thailand’s best hope in the prestigious tournament.
Dechapol and Sapsiree, who were runners-up in Birmingham last year, claimed a hat-trick of titles in three big tournaments in Bangkok in January.

Basel: Olympic silver medallist P V Sindhu dished out a superlative performance to outclass Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark in straight games and enter the women s singles final of the Swiss Open Super 300 tournament in Basel on Saturday. Sindhu, the reigning world champion, beat fourth-seeded Blichfeldt 22-20 21-10 in 43 minutes to avenge her first-round loss to the Danish world no. 12 at the Yonex Thailand Open in January. This is Sindhu s first final appearance since the World championships in Basel in 2019.
On Friday night, former champion Kidambi Srikanth advanced to the men s singles semifinals after a straight game win over sixth seed Kantaphon Wangcharoen of Thailand. However, the Indian conceded a 21-13 21-19 defeat against Vix Axelsen of Denmark in the clash on Saturday. This was the first clash between the two since their meeting at the 2019 India Open in March.
