(Paul Badde/CNA) ROME Eight hundred years ago, a barefoot St. Dominic carried an icon of the Virgin Mary across Rome to entrust the Marian image to a new community of cloistered nuns, who have safeguarded the icon within the walls of their convent to this day.
The icon, known as the “Advocata,” can be found today in a small chapel on Rome’s highest hill, in the Church of Santa Maria del Rosario on Monte Mario.

Soon, they will start the process to select the winner from the submitted portfolios from the nominated artists.

Eric died (suddenly) at his residence. Predeceased by his parents Richard and Elizabeth, his siblings Pat, Joseph and Betty. Very deeply regretted by his loving daughter Laura, brothers Mike, Dick, Raymond and Eugene, sister Marie (Coventry, U.K.), grandchildren Jordan, Kyle and Amelia, nephews, nieces, sisters-in-law, other relatives and many friends.

The Dominican Church of the Annunciation of Vittoriosa has reinterred the remains of Francesca Teresa Parlar, a Tertiary Dominican, from her grave in the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows, Addolorata Cemetery, to the church.
Parlar was born in Valletta on 24 November 1842, and enrolled as a nun in 1882 amid numerous mystical raptures and visions.
However, the Church has never officially confirmed the veracity of her alleged properties.

Requiem Mass for family will take place on Thursday, February 11 at 12 noon in The Dominican Church, Glentworth Street with burial afterwards in Mount St Oliver Cemetery.
In the interests of public health, attendance at Requiem Mass will be restricted to accord with government guidelines and in line with social distancing protocols. Messages of sympathy can be sent to Thompson’s, Thomas Street.
