Looking after their 74 residents, ages 13-85, is the top priority for the six nuns serving at Dar ul-Karishma (House of Wonders), which was established on Feb. 28, 1997, in a narrow street of Youhanabad, a predominantly Christian district of Lahore, Pakistan. The facility has separate male and female sections, and is multifaith, including eight clients who are Muslim.

For some, it was a welcome break from the busyness of their regular lives, but for many consecrated men and women, it was a challenge to be more daring and to allow new and creative expression of their respective charisms amidst the changes in the world due to the pandemic. The Joint Secretariat of the Association of Major Religious Superiors of the Philippines (AMRSP) received reports of the COVID-response from the different members. Common themes emerged. First was the desire to provide for the immediate needs of street-dwellers, those from the informal economy, and other daily wage earners. Individual institutes often had their own programs, depending on the availability of both human and material resources.

Saint Anne s Hospital offers scholarships for nursing students

For students who are pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing: The 2021 Nursing Memorial Scholarship in memory of Darcy E. Nientimp, BSN, RN, honors the Saint Anne’s Hospital ICU nurse who passed away in February 2015 at the age of 26, just six months after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Funded by donations from the community, this nursing memorial scholarship was established in 2015 to honor Darcy’s memory by helping others pursue a nursing career with passion and excellence, just as she did. Students who are pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing are eligible for this year’s awards. Applications must be completed and submitted no later than Friday, April 9.
