4 Jamaican fishermen detained by US authorities return home

Readers reactions – Tapia says Jamaica should consider where it would stand in US-China war | Letters

For the roughly 16 months that outgoing United States Ambassador to Jamaica Donald Tapia has been Washington’s top diplomat in Jamaica, he has been urging the Andrew Holness-led Government to steer clear of Chinese 5G telecommunications technology, arguing that it poses national security risks. Here are some readers’ reactions via Gleaner’s social media pages: Twitter – @ranold b – @Lee64602305 Trump Doctrine ends January 20, 2021. Be sure to come back and vacation any time and tell yuh fren dem how it nice – @BarryWhyte9 Tapia is doing his job minding USA’s interests. Holness fulfil the expectations of Jamaicans. What “war”? – @theblacklist War? Are we really there yet? The Bible did say in the “last days” there would be war and rumours of war. But we didn’t understand that to mean the “last days” of the Ambassador’s tenure!

JOY - Fishermen glad to be home for new year after US saga

Still wearing their US immigration detention garb, the four Jamaican fishermen who were aboard ‘Lady Lawla’ arrive at the Norman Manley International Airport yesterday. The four Jamaican fishermen who returned from the United States last evening were in high spirits, and their relatives were relieved to have them safely back home after more than two months detained in the US without charge after being accused of drug trafficking in what lawyers have called a breach of their rights. The men have reportedly been left traumatised by their detention, which started on October 11, when their boat, Lady Lawla, was boarded by the United States Coast Guard. Their ordeal ended yesterday, when they were released from US custody.
