The world’s real estate billionaires collectively added $151 billion to their fortunes in the past year, driven by a spike in Asian markets, according to the 2021
Forbes Billionaires rankings. The 215 real estate moguls have a combined net worth of more than $800 billion and represent about 8% of the total individuals on the list. Only 30 saw a net worth drop over the last year.
The six richest are all citizens of either China or Hong Kong, including Hong Kong’s Lee Shau-kee, 93, the world’s richest real estate tycoon, with a $31.7 billion fortune. Lee controls publicly traded Henderson Land Development, which builds residential properties and marquee commercial projects, like the World Financial Center in Beijing and the International Finance Centre complex in Hong Kong.

Elon Musk and Larry Ellison might have moved away, but California is still home to a record 189 billionaires.
Despite a purported tech exodus, the Golden State is home to more billionaires than ever.
Forbes 2021 World s Billionaires list features
189 California residents, an increase of 24 compared to last year.
In fact, California s 83 technology titans alone outnumber the total count of billionaires in any other state except New York s 126. High profile departures such as Oracleâs Larry Ellison and Teslaâs Elon Muskâboth companies and Musk moved to Texas, while Ellison personally relocated to Hawaiiâhave not dampened the prominence of Silicon Valley on the list. More than half of the 35 Californian newcomers became billionaires thanks to a growth in tech industry assets.
