World will remember Taiwan of 2020: Japanese envoy

Taipei, Jan. 1 (CNA) The world will remember the Taiwan of 2020, Hiroyasu Izumi, chief of the Taipei office of the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association (JTEA), said on Friday, citing the achievements and contributions of Taiwan in the year just ended.
In a message posted on the office s Facebook page, Izumi, who assumed his post in November 2019, said he witnessed Taiwan s presidential and legislative election in 2020, in which the essence of democracy in Taiwan was demonstrated.
Izumi went on to enumerate other developments he observed in Taiwan during 2020, among them Taiwan s success in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, and the death of former President Lee Teng-hui (李登輝), who he described as a great man.

Taipei, Dec. 23 (CNA) The contacts of a domestic COVID-19 case reported in Taiwan on Tuesday have all tested negative for the disease so far, including four people who had symptoms, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said Wednesday.
The case, a woman in her 30s, was infected by a friend, a New Zealand national who works as an EVA Airways pilot and was confirmed to be infected on Sunday. She was the first domestic case recorded in Taiwan since April 12.
The CECC has identified 173 people so far who had been in contact with the local woman, three of whom are friends and 170 work colleagues, the CECC said.

The collaboration also serves to expand bilateral exchanges between the two nations.
