COLUMBUS, Ind. – Tire deflation devices were utilized by the Columbus Police Department (CPD) to end a vehicle pursuit that began when officers tried to pull over a driver for a loud muffler on his car early Wednesday morning. Police attempted the traffic stop on a car near 11th and California Streets at around 1:45 a.m.
CPD says Tyler Howard, 19, of Columbus, refused to stop and began traveling at a high rate of speed. Law enforcement continued pursuing the suspect as his vehicle reached speeds of 100 mph on US 31.
The chase continued out into the county and the driver ran the car off the roadway and into a field near County Roads 150W and 100N. Officers say the vehicle then exited the field onto County Road 250W, where it struck tire deflation devices and became disabled.
