Brisbane Bullets end three-game NBL slide against Hawks in Round 13

DOWNLOAD But it was star Nathan Sobey who delivered in the crunch, scoring 10 of his 17 points and dishing three assists early in the final quarter to stave off a late Hawks push in Wollongong. For the Hawks, backcourt duo Tyler Harvey and Justinian Jessup combined for 37 points, but it wasn t enough to prevent Brian Goorjian s side from slumping to their own third straight defeat. The result means the Bullets join the fourth-placed Sydney Kings with 10-10 records, while the Hawks drop to sixth in a congested midtable. It was a sigh of relief from Brisbane coach Andrej Lemanis, who finally got import Lamar Patterson back from injury following his mid-season switch from the New Zealand Breakers.

Illawarra Hawks demolish Sydney Kings

2 weeks ago Illawarra have ended any hopes the Sydney Kings held of winning the NBL Cup after a comprehensive 89-69 victory over their intrastate rivals. The Hawks returned to form by smashing their NSW foes in the second half of Thursday s clash at John Cain Arena and consolidating their position in the NBL s top four. The Kings needed a victory in order to remain in contention for the NBL Cup but last season s grand finalists imploded after halftime, the Hawks blowing them off the court with a 25-8 third-quarter charge. Second-year forward Sam Froling dominated down low to finish with a season-high 20 points, while Tyler Harvey (17) and Justinian Jessup (15) each  landed three triples.

Illawarra Hawks storm home to beat Sixers in NBL Cup

Friday, March 5, 2021 The Illawarra Hawks have roared home in the fourth quarter to defeat Adelaide 36ers 98-89 in the NBL Cup. Both teams entered last night s clash at Melbourne s State Basketball Centre in dire need of a win having lost five of their past seven outings. But with the scores level after three quarters, it was the Hawks who broke through for a morale-boosting victory by outscoring the Sixers 26-17 in the final period. Tyler Harvey paced Illawarra with 24 points while Deng Adel and Cam Bairstow combined for 19 points in the fourth quarter to see the Hawks improve their season record to 7-5.

Colton Iverson double-double not enough as NZ Breakers go down to Illawarra Hawks

Darrian Traynor/Getty Images Colton Iverson had his best game for the Breakers in their NBL Cup opener against the Illawarra Hawks. The Breakers got a timely double-double from American big man Colton Iverson, but it was nowhere near enough to snap their losing skid in the Australian NBL in Melbourne on Monday night. The New Zealand club, who had lost four of their first five games in the new season hitherto, opened the NBL Cup hub in Victoria with a 102-88 defeat to the Illawarra Hawks that was not helped by 22 turnovers and some largely ineffective defence. Under the scoring system of the self-contained one-round competition (though results will also count towards overall season records) the Hawks took 5.5 points from the game, by virtue of their victory and winning two and a-half of the quarters. The Breakers garnered just 1.5 for winning the final term and splitting the first.
