New wearable device changes color to detect early disease marker in newborns sweat Mar 31, 2021 // Amanda Morris A team of Northwestern investigators have developed a soft, flexible and skin-like device that can measure chloride levels in a patient’s sweat for improved diagnosis of cystic fibrosis. A Northwestern Engineering-led research team has developed a novel skin-mounted sticker that absorbs sweat and then changes color to provide an accurate, easy-to-read diagnosis of cystic fibrosis within minutes. While measuring chloride levels in sweat to diagnose cystic fibrosis is standard, the soft, flexible, skin-like “sweat sticker” offers a stark contrast to current diagnostic technologies, which require a rigid, bulky, wrist-strapped device to collect sweat.

It s a perfect storm of things coming together that have raised interest in backcountry skiing this year, said Kurt Niiler, author of Presidential Skiing: A Guide To Backcountry Skiing In New Hampshire s Presidential Range . Niiler thinks skiers are foregoing chairlifts this season thanks to the availability of backcountry gear, which is lighter and stronger than ever before, as well as the fluid and often frustrating ways the resorts have felt with the Covid-19 pandemic. The Beacon BY YANEEK SMITH, BEACON CONTRIBUTOR OAK HARBOR After losing a key league game to Huron, Oak Harbor rebounded and rallied to defeat Bellevue, 53-38. In the process, the Rockets helped its coach, Eric Sweet, earn his 100th career victory. The Rockets (9-7) fell behind 13-7 after the first quarter, but bounced back to take a 22-20 lead into the half. They held a 33-27 lead after three quarters and put the game away by outscoring the Redmen, 20-11, in the fourth. “We fixed a couple of things defensively, we were rotating a little slow, we weren’t as active as I wanted us to be,” said Sweet. “We talked about some small changes, and the guys were able to execute, get a little more aggressive. Some good offensive possessions helped us to open up a lead in the second half.”
