Jupiter’s Legacy hit Netflix on May 7 and brought another Mark Millar property to life as the first series in his deal with the streaming service.
Millar is the man behind the comics that resulted in the movies Kick-Ass, Wanted, and Kingsman: The Secret Service, Logan, and Captain America: Civil War.
He signed a deal with Netflix to adapt his comics into streaming shows and movies to fill the gap left when Marvel left for Disney+.

The first season of Jupiter’s Legacy introduced the world to the original superheroes, the first of their kind, and then moves to the present day where their kids are not ready or unwilling to follow in their parents’ footsteps.
Sweet Tooth trailer as an appetizer, scarf down the first season of
Jupiter s Legacy for dinner, and serve up a scoop of
The Mitchells vs. The Machines as dessert? If so, we ve got a hefty midnight snack for you: all three projects have their own behind-the-scenes featurettes that we ve compiled into one convenient place!
First up, we start with a shot-by-shot breakdown of the evil Furby fight in
The Mitchells vs. The Machines with commentary by writer/director Mike Rianda and executive producers, Phil Lord and Chris Miller. We found that the darker the scene was, the funnier it got, Rianda explains. This comes from a real-life terror I had of Furby growing up. I didn t like it, so I tried putting it in the closet and it kept talking. I m working out these emotions on a large scale with the very talented crew.

While it seems like actor Josh Duhamel would have already taken on one or two live-action superhero projects in his career before Netflix s newest comic book actioner
Transformer franchise. Now, though, he s getting his time to shine in the comic book spotlight as Sheldon The Utopian Sampson (even if reviews for the Mark Millar and Frank Quitely adaptation haven t been so kind). And though he seems pleased enough with the show in general, Duhamel was apparently not so enthused by having to film fight scenes for
Jupiter s Legacy.
During a recent interview with press (via Digital Spy), Josh Duhamel was asked about filming the big brawl against Tyler Mane s Blackstar, and he pointed out how long it took to film that particular sequence before digging a little deeper into his particular distaste for filming superhero battles, saying:
Logan. So when Netflix bought Millarworld for somewhere between $40 and $50 million, according to
The Hollywood Reporter, it was a big deal and one that only has Disney buying Marvel in 2009 and Warner Bros. buying DC in 1969 as precedent. It took four years to see what that deal would actually yield for Netflix, but the first piece of that puzzle is
Jupiter s Legacy, a superhero series starring Josh Duhamel and based on a comic series that Millar wrote himself starting in 2013.
Millarworld will have plenty more projects make their way onto Netflix s crowded catalogue, but its this first one that should be able to build a bit of steady buzz. The first season tells a superhero story that feels a bit different from what we re accustomed to with the Marvel or D.C. worlds; the biggest difference? We don t know these characters from decades and decades of canon and influence. And that s what allows for some of the biggest twists and turns of the show s first eight-episode season.
