The Carroll Community School District’s (CCSD) Return to Learn plan, which includes a mask mandate for students in the classroom, will remain in place through the end of the school year with a few minor changes. A review of the current plan was already on last night’s (Thursday) agenda, but the topic was broached by several parents during the public forum segment of the meeting. Tyler Nelson spoke for those in attendance and questioned why masks were still required in the district despite vaccine availability and the county’s low positivity rate. The district started the year by strongly recommending masks but switched to requiring them in November due to high student-quarantine numbers. Board member, Duane Horsley, says the parents’ concerns are understandable and explained why the mandate was instituted.

According to a study done by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were 3,142 people killed on American roads due to distracted driving in 2019. That number is up 10 percent from the previous year. Add cabin fever from the dragging pandemic to the mix along with the upcoming nice spring weather, there will be a lot more travelers on U.S. highways.

Gathering Place Brewing to Host Third Annual Lager & Friends Virtually
Expand
Lager & Friends is coming back, again via Zoom, from Gathering Place Brewing Company for the third annual event. The virtual festival will take place Saturday, March 20 from 2 to 4 p.m.
The virtual festival highlights the skilled brewers and techniques required to make crafted lagers. The theme for this year is Old World Skills-New World Flavor and will focus on the lager brewing traditions of Europe and Wisconsin. Two interactive discussion panels will be held. One conversation with German and Czech brewers, the other with Wisconsin brewers.
âWe look forward to this even each year and the ability to shine a light on incredible lager beer and lager brewers,â says Joe Yeado, founder of Gathering Place Brewing. âThe virtual format allows us to connect with European brewers and Wisconsin brewers at the same time and I think those conversations will be pretty special.â
