Hemp Growers Talk Risk Management During Virtual Ag Week

Delaware Ag Week kicked off on Jan. 11 with a hemp webinar that focused on risk management. This year’s Ag Week event, which is sponsored by the University of Delaware, is being held virtually with sessions running until Jan. 22. Tyler Mark, a University of Kentucky production economist, said that the competition is stiff for hemp growers. For producers of CBD oil, usually the most lucrative crop, pricing is based on quality, taste, dosing accuracy, legal status, contaminants, and presence of THC. Oil production requires extensive monitoring of the crop throughout the growing cycle, and that the price of seeds is half the initial production cost, Mark said.
