Match report: U23s beaten by Derby at the Academy
Andy Kelly Liverpool U23s suffered a 4-1 home defeat against Derby County on a disappointing afternoon at the Kirkby Academy on Sunday.
The visitors struck three times during the first half of the Premier League 2 contest to leave the Reds with much work to do.
Derby then increased their advantage after the break, meaning Remi Savage’s late header represented only a consolation for the home team.
Barry Lewtas’ charges had fashioned the game’s first chance when Jake Cain’s corner was headed narrowly wide by captain Ben Woodburn.
Former UCLA cornerback commits to Red Raiders
News Highlights: Former UCLA cornerback commits to Red Raiders
Since the end of the 2020 Texas football season Tech lost four defensive backs from his regular rotation that were still eligible: Zech McPhearson and Thomas Leggett to train for the NFL draft, Alex Hogan and Ja’Marcus Ingram for the NCAA transfer portal.
Tech Coach Matt Wells fills those gaps with transfers from other power-five schools who have early-stage experience. The Red Raiders have added Duke’s Marquis Waters, North Carolina State cornerback Malik Dunlap, and now UCLA cornerback Rayshad Williams.
Waters started 35 games with Duke in the past three years, finishing with the team’s top three tacklers each of those seasons. Dunlap started 10 games with NC State in the past two seasons and took credit for 40 tackles and 12 pass-breakups.
News release:
Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells added to the Red Raiders future Wednesday with the commitment of 10 high school prospects to kick off the early signing period.
The class features three signees that are listed as a four-star prospect by one of the major recruiting services, giving Texas Tech an initial class that currently ranks in the top half of the Big 12 based on average recruit ranking by both Rivals and 247Sports. We knew this would be a smaller class than in years past, but we couldn t be more excited by the talent we were able to sign on both sides of the ball, Wells said. We view all 10 of these signees as having the potential to be immediate impacts in our program, and we can t wait to get them to campus.
