Subscriber only HUMAN rights group Amnesty International has slammed A Current Affair s Alice Springs youth crime story, labelling it as racist and claiming it would lead directly to children being harmed . In a letter sent to Channel Nine seen by the
NT News, Amnesty International Impact manager Tim O Connor accused the program of breaching Australia s journalistic standards code by placing unnecessary emphasis on race - specifically the Indigenous population - and failed to report fairly and accurately on the issue of youth crime.
Auckland Grammar School is often in the news for the wrong reasons. It is a state school in central Auckland with an awful, and well-deserved, reputation for elitism.
This time the school is opposing proposed changes to enrolment policies which would mean the children of former pupils would not necessarily be able to attend the school – they would have to go into a ballot with other boys from outside the school’s zone.
This is an outrage to school headmaster (sic) Tim O’Connor who rails against the proposal and is urging his school old boy community to get involved with this consultation process, and “just keep making submissions until the system blows up.”

The Ministry of Education says there s a special transitional arrangement to enrol younger siblings at an older child s school, even if the family s home is outside the new zone.
That s provided there is space on the school s roll.
Auckland Grammar headmaster Tim O Connor says it s not going to affect parents who want to access another school because they ll just move into the area.
He says the Ministry of Education should be focussing on people who move into the zone weeks before the school year starts.

REGION SAD 44 Board member Stephanie Herbeck started Monday’s meeting by sharing her thoughts on a project done by the Telstar eighth grade communications class called “Person Behind The Mask.”
Dean of Students Lindsay Luetje and School Counselor Stephanie Mastroianni oversaw the effort and two eighth graders, Maylyn Hastings and Angelica Hart, lead the presentation, which was seen by Herbeck via Zoom.
“COVID-19 has changed the way school feels,” Herbeck said. “Getting to know each other is tough, it’s hard to connect, it’s hard to get to know someone with these masks on.
With the students realizing the impact mask wearing has had on meeting or interacting with other classmates, they came up with their idea of the “Person Behind The Mask.”
