Tysons pop-up dining concept ShipGarten looks to activate land slated for redevelopment

Tysons Biergarten could be coming back as a part of ShipGarten, a pop-up dining experience. Image used with permission. Tysons is under construction, but much of it will take a long time to build. In the meantime, the Tysons Comprehensive Plan calls for “interim conditions that will enhance the urban character of Tysons,” such as pop-up parks and green space. The people behind ShipGarten are kicking those interim conditions up a notch, adding shipping containers and beer. The pop-up bar and restaurant space, a successor to the popular Tysons Biergarten that closed in 2019, will feature four 40-foot shipping containers, each converted into its own food and drink concept, alongside large tents, seating, and an entertainment venue.

Tysons West Wastewater System Enhancements | Public Works and Environmental Services

Project Background Tysons is transforming into Fairfax County s downtown, where people live, work and play. This area is planned to become a green urban center with new streets, sidewalks and bike paths. It is estimated that by 2050, Tysons will host 100,000 residents and 200,000 jobs. The full vision for Tysons is presented on the Tysons Partnership website. To support this vision, utilities are expanding and upgrading their services to provide power, communications, and water and wastewater collection services. The Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services, which is responsible for wastewater collection and treatment in this area, is working on new wastewater infrastructure to collect and treat the additional wastewater that is anticipated to come from the Tysons area.

Developer plans pop-up park on parcel in Tysons

Before constructing two high-rise residential buildings and a hotel in central Tysons several years from now, a developer hopes to put that land to productive interim use. Tysons Westpark LC is seeking the Fairfax County government’s approval to build a 16,500-square foot “pop-up” park and new-vehicle parking at 8401 Westpark Drive, not far east from Route 7. The Fairfax County Planning Commission on Dec. 9 unanimously recommended that county supervisors approve the proposals. The matter is scheduled to come before the Board of Supervisors Jan. 26. Supervisors in April 2013 rezoned the 5.32-acre site for the Westpark Plaza development, and the developer subsequently razed the former Best Western Westpark Hotel there. The property later served as a staging area for construction of a nearby development, The Boro, and now is being used for off-street commercial-vehicle parking.
