Other Opinion: Work together on COVID exit strategy

Other Opinion: Work together on COVID exit strategy The pandemic needs to end soon. With glimmers of optimism for that, Minnesotans can call on Gov. Tim Walz, our divided state Legislature, business owners, industries, and others to all work together, and to do so now and with urgency, so we can be ready when it does end. Minnesota bill seeks mining-friendly state declaration

MN interlock program gets a shot of support

By Doug Barrett Feb 16, 2021 8:41 AM A Minnesota House committee has given the green light to a bill aimed at increasing the use of ignition interlock devices while reducing the need for so-called “whiskey plates” for DWI drivers.  Supporters say graduates of the interlock program are 39% less likely to offend.  At the same time less than half of the 22,653 motorists arrested for DWI last year participated in the program. Representative Dave Baker says whiskey plates that identify prior offenders only shame those who have made a mistake. The bill seeks to remove interlock barriers – including a requirement of a written test.  Minnesota DWI Task Force Chair David Bernstein says a bill is also in the works for a “fluid” pilot project that detects drugs through saliva.
