Manchester adds nursing degrees

Aspiring nurses have another training option to consider – Manchester University.
Classes begin this fall at its Fort Wayne and North Manchester campuses, the university announced Monday upon receiving accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission and the Indiana State Board of Nursing.
Prospective students may apply to one of two nursing programs – the traditional Bachelor of Science in nursing and the accelerated BSN second degree, which is for people with a bachelor s degree in another field who want to pursue a bachelor s degree in nursing, according to a news release.
Indiana University s School of Nursing is also launching an accelerated nursing degree program at its Fort Wayne campus this summer.

As spring beckons to students and their families, Allen County health officials are urging residents to remain vigilant with coronavirus precautions even as cases decrease and vaccinations increase.
“There is light at the end of the tunnel, but it s still too early to abandon practices that have worked to reduce the spread of COVID-19,” Allen County Health Commissioner Dr. Matthew Sutter said in a statement.
Purdue University Fort Wayne is scheduled to begin its spring break today. The four Allen County school districts planned their spring breaks for early April.

Alumni couple s estate to endow professorship

Seventy years after graduating from Manchester University with degrees in biology and piano performance, Esther Hamer hopes a $1.5 million estate gift from her and her late husband helps future students find balance and enjoyment through music.
Their donation establishes the John L. and Esther L. Rinehart Hamer professorship in music, Manchester announced Thursday.
“Even in this era, while science and medicine remain important, John and I hoped that Manchester would continue to have a strong music program,” Esther Hamer said in a statement. “Music has given balance to my life.”
