The inshore lifeboat was called out on Saturday. Picture Falmouth RNLI A YACHT taking on water was left to be recovered by a salvage company after the owner was rescued by Falmouth lifeboat crews. In heavy seas and strong winds, Falmouth Coastguard launched Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat on Saturday to help a person aboard a yacht which was taking water on a mooring in Falmouth Harbour. Launching at 9.47am, the inshore lifeboat Robina Nixon Chard and crew made their way across the harbour from the station to the yacht with owner aboard. Lifeboat crew members went aboard to ensure the owner was OK and help assess that state of the water coming into the vessel, with a salvage pump passed across to remove some of the seawater.
In recognition of this incredible commitment to helping save lives at sea, long-service medals have been presented to 15 volunteers who have passed significant milestones at Falmouth station, totalling over 450 years of service between them. Awards have been allocated to Dave Nicoll (40 years), Andy Angove (40 years), Alan Rowe (just under 29 years), Nick Lewis (35 years), Jonathon Blakeston (25 years), Carl Beardmore (28 years), Tom Bird (19 years), Dave Proud (27 years), Pauline Allday (40 years), Josephine Bee (50 years), Elizabeth Bee (30 years), John Bennett (20 years), Simon Culliford (30 years), Chris Ruberry (20 years) and Mike Yarnell (20 years). Nick Lewis, Falmouth Lifeboat Operations Manager who himself received a long-service award for over 30 years of volunteering at Falmouth station, said:
A 33ft high floating Christmas tree made from 1,000 lights is bringing joy to the people of Falmouth after being has moored off Fishstand Quay. The floating Christmas pontoon was built by local Penryn company WorkFloat, as well as their award-winning folding workboat they have also patented a product called ScaffFloat, a pontoons system made using scaffolding, that was used to build the floating tree. Toby Budd, MD said We just thought it would be a nice thing to do, and we ve had some lovely feedback on social media from people saying thank you so I am glad we made the effort. After all if Mousehole can do it then surely Falmouth can do better, in fact I have already had some local businesses asking if they can sponsor one for next year, so you never know we could end up with a floating forest of lights in the harbour, not what we had in mind but something that would be great for Falmouth and the town centre if it went ahead
