Corn prices inched up this morning, supported by ongoing planting delays in Brazil. Rainy forecasts in the Midwest over the next few days are also contributing to the morning’s gains.
USDA releases its weekly export sales report this morning. Old crop corn export sales are likely to register smaller volumes than last week, with market analysts projecting a range between 19.7 million – 35.4 million bushels. New crop corn export sales are expected to range between 2.0 million – 11.8 million bushels.
USDA reported two large daily flash sales of old crop corn during the week ending April 1. Japan ordered 4.4 million bushels of corn to be delivered in the 2020/21 marketing year. An unknown buyer also booked nearly 4.0 million bushels of corn scheduled for 2020/21 delivery.
Recent daily case counts have set records for 2021.

If Gov. Tom Wolf is right that the vaccine is winning in a race against the fourth wave of COVID-19 infections, that race is a very close one in Allegheny County.
Wolf was in McKeesport Wednesday to visit Bethlehem Baptist Church, where the Allegheny County Health Department will open a vaccination clinic on Monday. He also defended the state’s decision to ease pandemic restrictions as the number of infections was rising. Nearly half of new coronavirus infections nationwide are in just five states New York, Michigan, Florida, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Yield losses in Brazil are expected to reach 3.6% after delays in the preceding soybean harvest pushed planting paces for Brazil’s second crop of corn outside of its optimal planting window. Since the majority of the crop is exported, the yield losses – which could potentially be offset by an acreage increase – improved corn futures prices this morning.
Corn futures prices rose $0.01-$0.05/bushel in overnight trade on the concern of tightening short-term global supplies. Rain delays will also slow planting progress, which diminishes the chances of increasing acreage for the 2021 growing season.

Electric Pickup Truck With Swappable Batteries: Meet The Toyota EVE ++ It’s a 4Runner with a Nissan Leaf motor and battery modules.
Kyle Seggelin loves rock crawling. For a long time, he had been doing so before his 1989 Toyota 4Runner’s engine overheated at the beginning of 2021. That was the right time for him to make an electric pickup truck for rock crawling and compete at the 2021 “
King Of The Hammers’” new EV-only category. Seggelin ingeniously made that: with swappable battery modules.
The competition was just an additional push toward a plan Seggelin had for a long time.
“Rock crawling specifically is also well suited to electric drive, where low-end torque is desired over sustained high output. You can have fun all day in a rock crawler and never go farther than a 5-mile radius from camp or go over 20 mph.”
