Detectives this week arrested two Sacramento County men in connection with dozens of catalytic converter thefts from vehicles throughout Northern California, including Napa, Davis police officials said.
Shaneel Lal, 37, of Sacramento and Dao Xiong, 43, of Elk Grove were arrested Tuesday after the detectives served search warrants as part of a five-month investigation, the Davis Police Department announced in a news release Wednesday.
Lal and Xiong were booked at the Yolo County on 61 counts of grand theft on suspicion of stealing catalytic converters from vehicles in the Sacramento area, Yolo, El Dorado and Napa counties, and the Bay Area, police officials said.

On January 26, 2021, someone vandalized the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the City of Davis, California USA. The statue in Davis’ Central Park of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the independence leader and father of India, was found vandalized on the grass next to its plinth. It was a tragic act to destroy the Gandhi statue in Davis. Gandhi stands for love and nonviolence and justice for all. The world needs Gandhi’s message now more than ever with wars raging in so many parts of the world.
A large number of peace-loving community members choose peace over violence, love over hatred, and rallied at Central Park at City of Davis California on Sunday, Jan 31st, 2021 in support of Reinstating the Gandhi Statue & condemning the hatred. DAVIS, Calif.–A large number of peace loving, non-violent Indian American communities rallied at the City of Davis, California last week in support of Reinstating Gandhi Statue at Davis.
More than 500 people urged the City of Davis Administration to find the culprits and bring them to justice and call on the entire world to rise as one entity and destroy the nefarious designs of these hate mongers. They also urge The City of Davis Administration to reinstate the statue and provide adequate protection in the future.
The crowd came with meaningful placards, slogans, banners, and flags of the United States and India, supporting Gandhi’s statue reinstatement. This pro statue rally and vigil was organized by the Indian Association of Sacramento (IAS) and supported organizations in and around Davis.
