When federal officials loosened mask-wearing restrictions on May 13, there was much confusion among area residents – and frustration from area proprietors. If you read the news carefully, the order meant fully vaccinated individuals could go without masks –
if their local guidelines permitted. Instead, some chose to read it as permission to do as they please.
It didn’t help that several stores like
Wal-Mart,
Trader Joe’s and
Costco quickly announced they would no longer require masks. But county and state restrictions apply first, regardless of company policy. Since then, Gov. Gavin Newsom confirmed that Californians will continue masking until June 15 – especially when inside or in crowded outside environments like the

Woman killed in West Sacramento shooting was the mother of a little girl, family says

May 14 Family and friends say a 22-year-old woman killed last week in a West Sacramento shooting involving two vehicles was a young mother who left behind a little girl.
Brenda Jimenez of West Sacramento was killed in the shooting that also critically injured another person in the early hours of May 6 in the 600 block of Cummins Way, according to the Yolo County Coroner s Office.
About 2 a.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired and sounds of vehicles speeding away, the West Sacramento Police Department said last week.
