Walk-ins welcome at Davidson County COVID-19 vaccination clinics

Anyone who wants a COVID-19 vaccination and hasn’t gotten one yet, here is your opportunity. The Davidson County Health Department will be holding free, walk-in vaccination clinics all this week. No appointments or insurance is necessary. Want to know more about what is happening in Davidson County? Support local journalism, subscribe to The Dispatch. These clinics will be at the Health Department at 915 Greensboro St. and can be either first or second doses for participants. The hours of operation are from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., except on Monday, May 3 the hours will be extended to 6 p.m. Health Department workers will be administering the Pfizer vaccine during these clinics on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The Moderna vaccine will the available on Wednesday.

Davidson County ERs grappled with run of opioid overdoses in 2020

The Dispatch Last year, as Davidson County grappled with a global pandemic, it also faced another health crisis  the opioid epidemic. Health care professionals at the county’s two emergency rooms dealt with an increasing number of people who headed to the ER for overdosing on opioids. But last year proved to be much different than years past. The number of overdose visits to the county’s ERs reached its highest in a decade, according to data reported by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. In Davidson County, 196 people were recorded to have visited the county’s two emergency rooms. That’s 16 people overdosing per month, or one person every other day.
