THE PANDEMIC
In the face of COVID-19, âgrowthâ makes no sense
Even in the face of COVID-19, federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg is bringing down a federal budget aimed at economic growth (âBorders set to reopen next year in recovery bidâ, 10/5). This isnât a good idea.
To fuel growth, migration will be restored âto pre-pandemic levels as soon as the governmentâs health experts declared it possibleâ. Note the word is possible, not advisable. The idea of boosting migration on the cutting edge of a possibility makes me uneasy. Itâs possible any time anyone says so, but globally the risk of infection and death from th

Peter Lürssen described at the recent Lürssen Live show how the company have been at the forefront of the innovation: âSince 2009 we have been involved in research projects aimed at using fuel cells on ships, and since 2012, the development of a modular fuel cell system using methanol has been underway â this is a project which runs under the name Pa-X-ell.
Describing the science behind the innovation, Peter Lürssen explained âwe have a partnership with Freudenberg, the leading company in maritime methanol fuel cells. The core element is a cell which consists of two bipolar plates and one membrane electrode-assembly, in between you build these cells, hundreds of cells are stacked to form a fuel cell stack.  Several fuel cell stacks, the FC balance of the plant (compr

CLIMATE TARIFFS
Country held to ransom by Coalitionâs blockers
How long did Morrison think the world would wait for Australia to take climate change seriously (âClash on green tariff bidâ, 11/2). The UK parliament declared a climate emergency almost two years ago in May 2019. Australia will lose every which way if we donât get on board with the transition. It is well past time for Morrison to show some leadership and bring the blockers in his party and the Nationals into the 21st century. They are holding this country to ransom, wasting valuable time, trying to stave off the inevitable.

COLLINGWOOD REPORT
Time for humility and a leadership change
It is deeply shameful that Australia has lost Heritier Lumumba. He represents the Australia we could have: a society where brave, intelligent, articulate deep thinkers with integrity are valued, regardless of their cultural identity.
It is deeply shameful that Eddie McGuire just can’t seem to say “sorry”. But unfortunately he represents the kind of leadership we have at the helm of most sporting, political and business institutions in this country: over-entitled, monocultural human anachronisms. Show some humility, Eddie. Just resign.
