CLEVELAND, Ohio – Two days, two big nationally televised games to watch. Sunday, NBC had the Cleveland Browns-Pittsburgh Steelers game, then on Monday ESPN aired the National Championship between Ohio State and Alabama. We look at the network’s coverage, from sharp graphics to commentary and play breakdowns. Alabama won, 52-24.
The coverage
Kirk Herbstreit (analyst) worked the game with
Maria Taylor and
Allison Williams (sideline reporters). A lot of the commentary focused on Alabama’s offense, and while Ohio State fans might not be happy about that, it was hard to avoid. Alabama’s offense continued its explosive run it showed all season. Herbstreit was quick to break down plays, showing why players were getting open.
David Pollack: Tom Herman should go to Alabama, Nick Saban
Steve Sarkisian to run the program. Sarkisian will stay with Alabama through the national title game, but then it’s off to the Forty Acres.
That will leave an offensive coordinator opening at Alabama. A report from FOX Sports’ Bruce Feldman earlier this week said the program was considering former New York Jets head coach
Adam Gase and former Houston Texans coach Bill O’Brien, but could another name possibly emerge for that position or another that would be quite the story?

Get Up on Friday morning to discuss Zach Wilson and his NFL prospects. Pollack says Wilson, who was projected as the fourth overall pick to the Atlanta Falcons in Todd McShay s latest NFL mock draft, reminds him of two great current NFL quarterbacks.
When asked who Zach Wilson can be in the NFL, Pollack said the two comparisons he makes scare him because they are too good. Pollack said Wilson reminds him of Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes:

With the reportedly scheduled Jacksonville Jaguars interview, Urban Meyer has recently come to the forefront of many NFL discussions. But, football analyst David Pollack believes another Buckeyes coach would be a better fit at the next level: Meyer’s former offensive coordinator Ryan Day.
On Friday morning’s episode of ESPN’s
Get Up, Pollack said Meyer’s successor Day would be better suited for the NFL. He cited Meyer’s firm leadership style as a strategy not conducive to professional coaching.
