A drink-driving soldier who was nearly four times the limit when he crashed into a wall and later ended up in a ditch has been handed a suspended sentence.
David Nolan, 34, who is based at Rock Barracks in Woodbridge, was the driver of a Vauxhall Corsa when the car crashed into a brick wall at the end of an residential driveway in Melton around 7.30pm on March 31.
There was damage to the wall outside the property and the homeowner came out of his house after seeing Nolan at the end of his driveway, Wayne Ablett told the court.
Farming families join forces to buy New England station

Three New England farming families have banded together to acquire one of the region’s top grazing properties, Kingsgate Station, for almost $12 million.
The 11,800-hectare property about 32 kilometres east of Glenn Innes had been owned since 1983 by Hereford cattle breeders Paddy and Jay Quilty. The Quiltys had been trying to sell it since late 2019.
Kingsgate Station has a current carrying capacity of 1000 cattle.
While there were plenty of people wanting to buy it cheaply, selling agent Jim Ritchie of Nutrien Harcourts said it sold close to the vendors’ asking price.

A judge has told a woman who lay across a pedestrian crossing at Mullingar General Hospital, interrupting traffic as a result, she risks spending a “number of months” at the Dóchas Centre women s prison.
Judge Seamus Hughes issued the warning to Bernadette Earley, 6 Springfield, Mullingar at last week s District Court sitting following her arrest less than 24 hours earlier.
Sergeant Orla Keenan gave evidence of having arrested Ms Earley at 8pm last Monday night (April 26).
She said the 62-year-old replied: “They shouldn t have discharged me,” after caution.
She said Ms Earley had been under the care of Galro, an organisation based in Westmeath that provides assisted living to its clients.
