The Cornish flag won’t rise above city hall and the choir won’t sing the Cornish anthem “Trelawny.” As it has on other events, the pandemic has stamped canceled on this year’s St. Piran’s Day, Grass Valley’s quirky celebration named for Cornwall’s patron saint. But be assured, the Cornish are still here. In their Celtic homeland, in the southwest corner of Britain, the Cornish mined tin since the Bronze Age and copper for nearly as long. They came to California not for riches but for a better life.

Virtual events firm Hopin doubles valuation in four months to $5 65 bln

Hopin, a British-based provider of virtual events, has raised $400 million from venture capitalists including Andreessen Horowitz and General Catalyst in its latest fundraising round that more than doubled its valuation to $5.65 billion in four months.

Advertising and sponsorship policy approved at Battleford council

Parks and Recreation Director Jordan Schechtel presented the policy at the meeting, which he said is based largely on one put in place in Moose Jaw. The policy had previously come up at the town’s parks and recreation committee and had already gotten their approval. Among the ideas put forward at the meeting was awarding naming rights for the Battleford Arena; also put forward was an idea to put up a billboard in front of the rink that could be used to put up advertising. The naming rights discussion was particularly animated. The proposal in the draft policy was for a 10-year term for arena naming rights at $15,000 per year.
