WELCH, W.Va. â A West Virginia World War II veteran who died recently is the oldest recorded organ donor in United States history.
Cecil F. Lockhart of Welch was 95 years old when he passed away May 4 after a short illness. He served his country during World War II and contributed to his community by mining coal for more than 50 years, and his desire to serve others continued when his donated liver aided a 62-year-old woman.
The Center for Organ Recovery & Education (CORE) announced that Lockhartâs decision to help others after death made him the oldest recorded organ donor in U.S. history â a confirmed by the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS).

WELCH, W.Va. (AP) A World War II veteran who passed away recently has proven that it’s possible to keep helping others by giving the gift of life and becoming the oldest recorded organ donor in United States history.

(CNN) A woman who is recovering from a liver transplant not only has a new lifesaving organ, but one that made history.
That s thanks to Cecil Lockhart from Welch, West Virginia, who died at age 95 on May 4, making him the oldest organ donor in United States history, according the Center for Organ Recovery & Education, which coordinated the recovery of the liver.
The previous record for the oldest donor was a 93-year-old, according to the United Network for Organ Sharing.
