Sculpture honours Daphne Caruana Galizia in European Parliament

A sculpture in tribute to murdered journalists Daphne Caruana Galizia and Ján Kuciak has been placed in the European Parliament permanently. The two metre high steel and iron sculpture has the words Immortal Truth wrapped around it and emblazoned in lights above it.  A phrase cut into its base says In memory of Daphne Caruana Galizia and Ján Kuciak and all the journalists murdered for the truth. The journalists were both murdered outside their homes and within four months of each other. Caruana Galizia was killed in a car bomb in Bidnija, Malta in October 2017 and Kuciak in a village outside Slovakia s capital, Bratislava.

While largely supportive of the EC bid to set minimum wage standards across the bloc, Maltese MEPs were either opposed or wanted flexibility on a demand by the European Confederation of Trade Unions for a mandatory “decency threshold” that pegs minimum wage in each country to its average wage.

Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán informed Manfred Weber, the chairman of the centre-right EPP group in the EP, in a letter shortly after the vote was taken. “The amendments to the rules of the EPP Group are clearly a hostile move against Fidesz and our voters. Limiting our MEPs’ ability to carry out their duties as elected Members of the European Parliament deprives Hungarian voters from their democratic rights. This is antidemocratic, unjust and unacceptable. Therefore, the governing body of Fidesz has decided to leave the EPP Group immediatel
