Dewey Hall Presents Steve Katz of Blood, Sweat & Tears
Steve Katz, a guitarist, singer-songwriter, and producer best known for his work as a member of the renowned, Grammy Award-winning band, Blood, Sweat & Tears, will perform in a livestream on the Facebook page of Dewey Hall on Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.
As reported in a press release, Katz’s performance is part of Dewey Hall’s ongoing Keep the Lights On fundraising campaign. Part of the donations made during the concert will help keep the Hall operating during the COVID-19 pandemic
Like many other local venues, Dewey Hall has experienced financial difficulties since mass gatherings were canceled in Massachusetts last year. While outdoor events were held in the Hall’s back yard during the warm months, and will be held again in the spring, no concerts can be presented in Dewey Hall until the pandemic ebbs.
New book traces Canadian songwriter Ruth Lowe’s musical legacy

Canadian songwriter Ruth Lowe was a trailblazer.
Back in the early 1940s, Lowe took on the male-dominated music business and composed two songs for Frank Sinatra, the first of which helped launch the singer’s career.
Lowe wrote
I’ll Never Smile Again in 1940, and it became an instant hit when Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra recorded the song with vocals by a young Sinatra. The song has since become a standard, and it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1982.
In 1943, Lowe teamed up with Paul Mann and Stephan Weiss to write
Everybody Under the Sun.). The idea was to try to see if the feeling of the sun, the sunlight, could be transmuted into music the way sunlight transmutes chlorophyll giving life to all the plants, he says. I ve long been fascinated with the sun and the ways that we experience it. It s the source of our life. All life on Earth comes from the sun, and it s just a tremendous factor in our lives that we don t think about too much.
