In July 2020, Daniel Anderl, the son of federal Judge Esther Salas and attorney Mark Anderl, was shot dead by a gunman at the front door of the family s New Jersey home.
Daniel Anderl, 20, took a bullet to his chest trying to protect his parents. By the time Judge Salas came to the door, the killer was gone. Her husband, Mark, was wounded.
Daniel Anderl, the son of U.S. federal Judge Esther Salas and attorney Mark Anderl, was shot dead while trying to save his parents from a man who went to the door of their North Brunswick home armed with a gun posing as a deliveryman last summer.
Correspondent Tracy Smith and 48 HOURS investigate the connection between the murder of Anderl and Marc Angelucci, who died 2,800 miles away in the mountains of San Bernardino days prior, in “The Deliveryman Murders” to be broadcast Saturday, Feb. 20 at 10 p.m. on the CBS Television Network.
“I have direct evidence that he died heroically, that he had a holy death,” David Oakley, Daniel Anderl’s Godfather and a family friend, says in the interview. “And, so, I have no hesitation about praying to Daniel. And I have been.”

HALIFAX A 57-year-old Pictou County man has been sentenced for animal cruelty in a widely publicized case from February 2019. David Oakley of Sylvester, N.S. was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with killing, maiming, wounding, poisoning, or injuring a dog and willfully causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to a dog, the Nova Scotia SPCA wrote in a news release. Oakley, who was convicted in Pictou Provincial Court on Monday, was given a lifetime ban on owning animals and a 21-month conditional sentence, of which 12 months will be spent under house arrest. Late in the evening of February 14, 2019, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Nova Scotia SPCA received a complaint regarding animal abuse, states the SPCA news release. SPCA Enforcement Officers and RCMP members responded and found numerous puppies and one adult dog deceased on the property. One dog was found to be in critical distress and as a direct result of their condition, the dog was t
