Council to provide summer holidays food support for families in Burnham area
Somerset County Council will continue to provide help to families in the Burnham-On-Sea area in need of food support over the school Summer Holidays.
The Department of Work and Pensions has extended its Covid Local Support Grant, providing £1.4m to Somerset County Council to support vulnerable families.
The Council is using the grant to fund food vouchers worth £15 per week for children eligible for Free School Meals over the six-week Summer Holidays.
The food vouchers will be distributed by local schools and the Council would like to thank the school staff who have undertaken the work to make sure the eligible families can access the vouchers.

I HAVE just found out (by word of mouth) that Somerset West and Taunton Council have set up a “behind closed doors” working group to look at forming a town council for Taunton - something that many of us have wanted since it was abolished 47 years ago in the botched 1974 reform that broke the historic county of Somerset up. Should a unitary council for Somerset be formed in 2022/23 then it is critical that Taunton as the County Town has a strong voice through a powerful town council. The working group meetings are held “in camera” and the public cannot attend (even online via Zoom). No agendas, meeting notes or papers are yet openly published by them.
