Fran O'Sullivan: Covid reveals too many empty chairs

Fran O Sullivan: Covid reveals too many empty chairs 7 May, 2021 05:00 PM 5 minutes to read OPINION: Rob Campbell has fired a serve at company chairs and directors who refused to sign a joint letter to the Government calling for greater transparency on Covid, saying they were protecting their own arses and doing a major disservice to their communities. Campbell who chairs SkyCity, Tourism Holdings and Summerset was among five listed company chairs who went public in early March calling for more openness and clarity from the Government on its plan for getting New Zealand to Covid normal . There were people who were directors and chairs of companies who didn t have the balls to sign the letter, Campbell told the Institute of Directors 2021 leadership conference on Thursday. That were worried about reaction, about being penalised, about being scapegoated.

Covid-19 vaccine: Confusion reigns over how and when to get jab

File photo. Photo: AFP / Steven Saphore The government s roll out plan says group 3 will be vaccinated from May - that is over 65s who do not fall into earlier groups, and people with conditions that make them more susceptible to Covid-19. But the Ministry of Health says for most in the group of 1.7 million, the call-ups would not begin until the end of the month. Auckland GP John Cameron said his surgery was flat out doing flu jabs and almost everyone was asking about Covid-19 too. There was a lot of confusion, with many understandably assuming being eligible from May meant from the start of the month.

Covid-19: Clinic for vaccinations opens in West Auckland

Auckland s latest mass vaccination clinic has opened in west Auckland after a blessing this morning. In the next few weeks, large clinics are due to open in Albany, Birkenhead and Westgate. File image Photo: RNZ / Simon Rogers The community gathered at dawn for karakia and waiata for the centre, which is run by Te Whānau o Waipareira Trust. The clinic, Te Whare Tūhono, is using the former Noel Leeming warehouse in Henderson. It is starting with some practice runs for the next few days, but will eventually vaccinate up to 1000 people a day. Whānau o Waipareira Trust chief executive John Tamihere said alongside that would be a social media and web campaign, Vax to the Max, aimed at countering Covid-19 misinformation.
