Romain Grosjean has revealed his children were the reason why he has opted not to race on ovals when he switches to the IndyCar Series this year.
The Frenchman has confirmed he will drive for Dale Coyne Racing, in conjunction with the Rick Ware Racing team, by making the move Stateside from Formula 1.
But it will be for only the 13 of the 17 rounds that take place on circuits or street courses, thereby avoiding the other four on ovals – a type of racing for which Grosjean has long since had an aversion.

The Southeast District Emergency Response Team helped Kelowna RCMP Tuesday night with the arrest of a man wanted on a Canada wide warrant out of Sudbury. 30 year old Adrian Eppinger was wanted on 3 counts of attempted murder, extortion, criminal harassment, and assault with a weapon. The investigation led police to believe the suspect was inside a home in the 300-block of Mallach Road, by South Rutland Elementary. That’s the same block where there was a major drug bust just over a week ago.
Two men were arrested after allegedly using a stolen truck and attempting to steal heavy equipment. Monday night, Kelowna RCMP responded to a business compound in the 100-block of Pinto Road where two men were attempting to steal a bobcat. One suspect was arrested right away, the other tried unsuccessfully to get away from a police dog. 38-year-old Michael Grant, and 46-year-old Kaare Vaagen (car vahgen) face numerous charges.

The former Haas driver announced on Wednesday that he has inked a 2021 deal with the Indycar team Dale Coyne Racing - and confirmed speculation that he will sit out the high speed oval races including the Indy 500. I discussed this decision as a family, he is quoted by RMC. In principle I was going to do the whole season, including the ovals, but after the accident I didn t feel like doing the two superspeedways in Texas and Indianapolis, although I would certainly dream of winning the 500 miles, Grosjean, 34, said.

Romain Grosjean believes that Lewis Hamilton would also have struggled to “fight for points” if he was driving a Haas during the 2020 Formula 1 season.
While Hamilton romped to a seventh world title driving the class-leading Mercedes, Grosjean ended his final campaign in F1 with just two points and a best finish of ninth at the Eifel Grand Prix.
Both Grosjean and his teammate Kevin Magnussen were not renewed for another year by the US-owned outfit, but the Frenchman argued that in F1, your results largely depend on the equipment you are given.
