BOTTOM LINE: Stetson goes for the season sweep over Liberty after winning the previous matchup in DeLand. The teams last met on Jan. 15, when Liberty made only four free throws on six attempts while the Hatters went 17 for 21 en route to a six-point victory.

BOTTOM LINE: Lipscomb goes for the season sweep over Liberty after winning the previous matchup in Nashville. The teams last played each other on Jan. 1, when the Bisons shot 48.2 percent from the field while holding Liberty to just 40.6 percent en route to a seven-point victory.
SAVVY SENIORS: Liberty’s Elijah Cuffee, Chris Parker and Keegan McDowell have combined to score 35 percent of all Flames scoring this season.DOMINANT DARIUS: Darius McGhee has connected on 38.6 percent of the 101 3-pointers he’s attempted and has gone 10 for 22 over the last three games. Liberty University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams open ASUN Conference play on New Year’s Day and Jan. 2, respectively, at Lipscomb University which the Flames defeated in the past two ASUN Championship games and at home against the Lady Bison.
In the new COVID-19 schedule format, the Flames and Lady Flames will conclude their two-game series the very next day against the same teams at the same locations with the men playing Jan. 2 at Allen Arena in Nashville, Tenn., and the women hosting Lipscomb on Jan. 3 in the sparkling new Liberty Arena, adjacent to the Vines Center.

Those who knew Jafar Brooks were lost for words in the days following the teenager’s untimely death.
“There are no words, you can’t describe this feeling. When you love someone, ain’t no words to make them feel better,” said Rashad Byrdsong, grandfather of the Churchill teen who was fatally shot earlier this week.
Byrdsong and his wife, Amargie Davis, have worked together for 30 years trying to prevent the fate met by their grandson. Brooks, 15, was found dead by police in Penn Hills early Tuesday morning after a shooting along the 1900 block of Garden Drive.
LYNCHBURG, Va. Blake Preston recorded 13 points and 11 rebounds to lift Liberty to an 82-52 win over South Carolina State on Tuesday night.
Elijah Cuffee had 16 points for Liberty (6-3), which earned its fourth straight home victory. Darius McGhee added 16 points. Chris Parker had 11 points, eight assists and five steals.
Rahsaan Edwards had 14 points for the Bulldogs (0-8). Floyd Rideau,Jr. added 10 points.
