The Clifton Street property was at the heart of serious drugs and anti-social behaviour problems A DRUGS den that brought misery and fear to a neighbourhood has been shut down – the second in less than a week. It is the latest strike in a town-wide drive by Middlesbrough Council and Cleveland Police to win back law-abiding streets from dealers, thugs and yobs. The Clifton Street property falls under the Newport ward Selective Landlord Licensing (SLL) scheme, with officers from the Council’s SLL team leading on securing the binding court order. The first floor flat will now be secured for three months with screens funded by the Safer Streets project run by the Office of the Police & Crime Commissioner and the Council.

Police have received reports of cold callers quoting high prices for roof tile work (file photo) Picture: Pixabay POLICE in Cleveland are reminding householders to be vigilant after reports of bogus tradesmen trying to con residents. Incidents were recently reported in North Ormesby and Berwick Hills whereby cold callers have asked residents for large deposits to carry out work on broken roof tiles. These happened on Friday January 22 and Sunday January 24, and on each occasion the cold callers suggested a £1,000 deposit, with the final work estimated to cost around £3,000. Cleveland officers say they want to remind residents to be vigilant around cold callers.
