× A DISABLED man who was mugged by a masked thief weeks after both his wife and parents died has been ‘saved’ by the support of local residents who have rallied round to help raise funds.
Darren Barnes, of King Street in Goldthorpe, was left at his lowest after the death of his parents Margaret and Trevor, who died days apart from each other.
The 48-year-old, who has learning difficulties, was devastated at the loss of his parents who he relied on for support.
But then on Christmas Eve, days after the death of his mother, Darren’s beloved wife Sonia suddenly died aged 59 - leaving him with no immediate family and contemplating taking his own life.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. â St. Pete police are asking for the public s help locating a murder suspect.
Police said the shooting happened Tuesday, Feb. 3 just after midnight at the Emerald Pointe Apartments at 175 73rd Ave. North.
When police arrived, they found Darren Barnes, 31, dead inside an apartment and another man is recovering from serious injuries.
Detectives are investigating what led up to the shooting.
Police are looking for Cornelius Cornbread Whitfield, 31, as the suspect in the murder. He is 5 6 tall and weighs 145 pounds.

NORTH PROVIDENCE – First it was late spring, then maybe summer, then we heard fall might see better times. Surely, Christmas wouldn’t be impacted?
But 2020 is ending as some feared when COVID-19 first emerged in Rhode Island 10 months ago, with even favorite holidays thrown out of whack as the virus came back in waves.
