Belle, Wickham say details needed from police and businessman Article by April 7, 2021 Two of the country’s leading political scientists have concluded that Prime Minister Mia Mottley did not act outside her legal authority during a highly-publicised interaction with a Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF) officer that has raised questions about potential abuse of power from the highest office in the land. Retired Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of the West Indies Dr. George Belle however contends that even if Mottley was not legally at fault, her actions could be interpreted as a show of intimidation toward law enforcement officials.

GG takes COVID vaccine

Social Share Governor General Dame Sandra Mason received the first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine in front of rolling cameras on Thursday morning. The Barbados Government Information Service was on hand to capture Dame Sandra and her household staff get vaccinated against COVID-19 by a team from the Maurice Byer Polyclinic. Calling the experience “effortless” and “amazing”, the Governor General urged Barbadians to follow suit. “In instances like these, it is a question of personal decision. But if I had to give anybody advice, I would say for your personal protection and for your future wellbeing, it might be a very good idea if you were to take the vaccine,” she emphasised.

She celebrated her 100th birthday at her Westmoreland, St James home yesterday surrounded by generations of her family, with Skype calls from the Governor General and relatives in Barbados and abroad. On the day that Dame Sandra also celebrated her 72nd birthday, she extended thanks to Lewis and her generation for the wisdom they have imparted and for their contribution to Barbados.
