Outreach event Saturday at First Assembly of God hopes to reach Victor Valley College students in need

Outreach event Saturday at First Assembly of God hopes to reach Victor Valley College students in need Outreach on Saturday in Victorville to assist homeless and needy students Victorville Daily Press God s Hand Extended will partner with other non-profit organizations to host a support event for “It Takes A Village,” the Victor Valley College program that assists its homeless and needy student population. Susan Conway, the founder of God’s Hand, said VVC students and faculty are invited to the support event that begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at Victorville First Assembly of God on Nisqualli Road. “We will have free food boxes, clothing, resources, (a) taco man, Kona Ice and other activities,” Conway said. “We want to encourage the students to meet and greet each other and to get plugged into our community and the new program at VVC.”

How a new program in Victorville is helping community college students experiencing homelessness

Pallet Shelters and the L.A. Conservation Corps are building a village of 103 tiny homes in North Hollywood, near Laurel Canyon Boulevard and the 170 Freeway. The goal is to offer a lifeline to those experiencing homelessness. To be eligible for assistance through the program, one must be enrolled at Victor Valley College, face housing insecurity or homelessness and maintain a 2.0 GPA. This is kind of a hidden population, said Searchlight Society co-founder Cassandra Martinez. It might be taboo for the student to be like Hey, you know, I don t have a place to stay. But we are receiving referrals nearly daily.
