In a world where binging is the norm, Iâve decided to follow Pineapple Street Studioâs Stay Away from Matthew Magill on a weekly basis. I look forward to each instalment of this atypical true crime podcast â and Iâm still trying to figure out what the twist is.
On the face of it, host Eric Mennel is simply trying to learn more about a dead man whose box of old documents and cassette tapes ended up in his possession. This man â Matthew MaGill â starts off as a mysterious character, but by the end of episode two, Mennel tells listeners that MaGill wasnât a nice man.

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Education today named the 2021 Students of the Year and honored all 21 regional finalists for the prestigious award during a virtual ceremony. This year’s state winners are Luka George Mikaberidze from Caddo Parish Schools and Zoe Alessandra Dieringer and Raedan Daniel Stephens from St. Tammany Parish Schools.
“Congratulations to Luka, Zoe and Raedan for being named Louisiana Students of the Year. I’m proud to have them represent our state,” said State Superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley. “These young leaders have excelled at the highest levels among their peers and are an example of the level of education available in Louisiana.”

When the story went national, Captain Scott Moore began fielding calls.
After millions of gallons of wastewater was released from the old Piney Point phosphate plant into Tampa Bay, tourists wanted to know if it was still safe to visit. They called Moore, who has been a professional fishing guide on Anna Maria Island for 40 years, asking if they would be able to swim and fish in the Gulf of Mexico.

Spotifyâs new podcast about people who faked their own deaths is a hub of tangled twists and turns. Alice Fiennes and Poppy Damon host the show, but in the first episode they let key players tell the story of the âBelrose Bombâ. Brett Boyd was left with life-changing injuries after a parcel bomb exploded at his home, but the circumstances around the attack were already a mystery when suspect Roberto de Heredia disappeared. Future episodes include a blogger who staged a hoax, a 14th-century nun who vanished to escape her life, and MP John Stonehouse, who pretended to have drowned.
