A couple stroll through the rainbow walk in honour of key workers at Luminate Sandringham

Magical lights sparkle off into the distance through the woods as music drifts through the trees.
This is Luminate, which brings the woods alive with light and sound as dusk falls at Sandringham.

Visitors walk an illuminated trail, with surprises and spectaculars along the way. They include a holographic humming bird, colourful trees, flickering fairies and a grumpy talking oak.
The event runs each evening until January 17, which some dates already sold out.

If you need an escape from day-to-day reality at the end of this most miserable of years, then the answer may just be on your doorstep.
Families flocked to Sandringham last night for the opening of the Luminate light trail through the woodlands of the royal estate.
The display had been due to begin last month, but was put on hold following the imposition of the second national lockdown.

But, as Norfolk remained in tier two following the first review of the current restrictions, visitors of all ages were able to enjoy the colourful show whilst maintaining the necessary social distancing.

Queen Elizabeth II, 94, owns a large amount of land and property across the UK including the 20,000-acre Sandringham Estate in Norfolk. Unlike Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle, Sandringham is privately-owned by the Queen who placed her husband Prince Philip, 99, in charge of running it upon her accession to the throne in 1952.

Queen Elizabeth II, 94, and Prince Philip, 99, traditionally travel to Norfolk every Christmas to spend the holiday at Sandringham House on the Sandringham Estate. However, this year the pandemic means the couple will remain at Windsor Castle and Sandringham s grounds will be opened to the public for a special ticketed event instead.

The Royal Family have cancelled their traditional Christmas plans amid the Covid-19 pandemic. While Queen Elizabeth II, 94, and Prince Philip, 99, usually host royal relatives at Sandringham house from Christmas Eve to Boxing Day, this year the couple will spend the holiday at Windsor Castle for the first time in 33 years.
