It’s not exactly a revelation that hot beverages and bakery items are a good match. After all, a cuppa and a slice of cake has been a favourite combination for generations.
However, there’s no doubt that the relationship has been cemented by one of the retail phenomena of the last quarter century: the coffee shop. It’s no exaggeration to say there has been a cultural shift in the way UK consumers have embraced all kinds of coffee over the last few decades.
“We have all explored the diverse range of coffee available, thanks to the extensive and high-quality variety in high street cafés,” says Mark Stevens, group relationship director at equipment solutions provider Scobie McIntosh. “The nation embraced this, and now in the UK coffee consumption has reached over 95 million cups per day – a staggering figure.”
Discussions continue to be held over the future of Cranbrook’s most historic building after it was severely damaged in an arson attack more than five years ago.
Christopher Brock has been jailed for sexually abusing three girls in Brighton “You robbed them off their childhoods and of their innocence. You were unable to control your sexual urges despite the risk of getting caught. This heightened your sexual thrill.” Brock, of Coolham Road, Thakeham, near Pulborough, will serve two thirds of his 13-year sentence before he can be considered for parole. Meanwhile Ian Ellingford, a former school caretaker in Brighton, was also convicted of rape. It was revealed how he had threatened her she would be abducted if she ever told anyone about what was happening. The judge said: “Behind the friendliness was a sexual interest. She had no idea what you were planning for her.

When 10-year-old Larry Panozzo started helping out at his family’s funeral business, he’d cart portable kneelers and chairs into customer’s homes because that’s where wakes often were held.
He went on to be one of the longest-serving funeral directors in Illinois.
Mr. Panozzo, a member of the second generation to operate 95-year-old Panozzo Brothers Funeral Home, died of heart trouble April 22 at his home in Flossmoor, according to his son Michael Panozzo. He was 91.
Licensed for 67 years, he had retired only in February.
Panozzo Brothers, founded in Roseland, is the sort of funeral home where it can take a long time to get through the line of people waiting to pay their respects. It’s a repository of memories for generations of families, particularly Italian Americans with ties to St. Anthony of Padua parish at 115th Street and Prairie Avenue.
