JASPER Moon is thrilled to be getting minutes in the Barnsley first team with the Championship play-offs just days away.
The 20-year-old came on at half-time in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Preston North End, playing in central midfield despite being a centre-back. Moon – who has been at Oakwell for four years since being released by Leicester City – had made his debut as an 87th-minute substitute at Rotherham United in December.
Moon told the Chronicle: “I was a little bit shocked that I came on at half-time but it shows the gaffer trusts me.
“The result was not the best and it’s against what we’re trying to do by building momentum going into the play-offs.

An Arnaut Danjuma goal deservedly put Cherries ahead at half-time at Deepdale. But first-half misses came back to haunt the visitors as Preston markedly improved after the restart, eventually levelling through Daniel Johnson and taking a share of the spoils in the 1-1 draw. That result, coupled with a win for Barnsley, sees Cherries slip outside of the Championship play-off places. For the third game in a row, Jonathan Woodgate named an unchanged starting XI. There were three alterations among the substitutes with Jack Wilshere back from suspension while young duo Jordan Zemura and Gavin Kilkenny were also included. Philip Billing, Diego Rico and Christian Saydee missed out.

Greg Cunningham scores the opening goal
Greg Cunningham scored a stunning goal as Preston moved level on points with Blackburn after defeating their hosts 2-1 in the Sky Bet Championship at Ewood Park.
The 100th league meeting between the two sides was ultimately settled in the first half through Cunningham s superb strike - his first since returning to Preston - and Liam Lindsay s close-range header.
Adam Armstrong s penalty in first-half added-time left the game in the balance but Rovers could not maintain the momentum and missed the chance to gain ground on the top six.
